This module explores the teacher’s role in supporting young children’s early concepts of number and early addition and subtraction. Also examined are the early childhood roots of patterning and algebraic and geometric reasoning through children’s play and how measurement and data analysis can be taught through developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant activities. Strong emphasis is placed on supporting diverse learners.
Explores the teacher's role further with focus given to number sense and quantification for young children as well as geometry and algebraic patterning. Strong emphasis is placed on supporting children and their families from a) diverse ability levels, e.g. typically developing and those with identified special needs; and b) diverse backgrounds, e.g. cultural, family structures, socio-economic levels and urban/rural.
Explores the teacher's role in supporting children's understandings of data analysis, algebraic standards as well as measurement. Teachers will be supported with implementation skills and strategies to become and effective mathematics teacher for young children. Strong emphasis is placed on supporting children and their families from a) diverse ability levels, e.g. typically developing and those with identified special needs; and b) diverse backgrounds, e.g. cultural, family structures, socio-economic levels and urban/rural.
